Things You Can Do from Home

As members of our community are forced to stay home more than normal, we want to help by offering some ideas for things you can do to pass the time. It might be time to learn a new hobby or catch up on some neglected chores. Many activities can be done with the help of local businesses!

Visit a Museum (Virtually)

Your entire family has the ability to visit a museum from the comfort of your couch. Museums all around the world are giving people the opportunity to take in art and history through virtual tours while practicing social distancing. This is a fun, unique way for adults and kids to stay engaged.

Stream Exercise Classes from Local Fitness Studios

Maintaining an exercise regimen is a good way to stay healthy and grounded while you are staying inside more. Many local fitness studios are streaming sessions with their instructors or posting workouts online.

Stimulate Your Brain with Puzzles & Games

More ways to put your brain to work or to keep your kids busy is with a puzzle, a book or Sudoku, or a group board game. These can be purchased at local game shops or stores that are staying open (just remember to keep your distance from people and follow safety guidelines).

Catch Up on Reading

Now is a good time to start on that stack of books you said you would read this year. If you would like to buy books, check with a local bookstore to see how they are handling the outbreak. They might be delivering or opening for quick pop-ins. This is also a great way to support local businesses during this uncertain time.

Create a Specialty Treat or Meal

Oftentimes, people don't have the time to bake something spectacular or cook a gourmet meal at home. Now might be the time to find a baking kit or specialty ingredients at local specialty food stores so you can still enjoy fancy bakery treats at home.

Things You Can Do from Your Vehicle

If you are getting stir-crazy at home, there are several things you can do to get out of the house beyond essential grocery trips. While restaurants are closed down, many still have drive-through or curbside pick up options. Taking a trip to a local eatery to pick up your favorite meal might end up being exactly what you need and it helps support local restaurants during these trying times. Alternatively, some folks are supporting their favorite local restaurants and retailers by buying gift cards that can be used later.

Somewhere else you can go while practicing social distancing is the local parks and trail systems around Columbus. There are several Metro Parks in the city that offer the opportunity for outdoor activity and exploring including:

  • Inniswood - More than 100 acres of woods and streams to explore and easy trails for hiking.
  • Homestead Park - 44 acres in Hilliard that include hiking trails, scenic views, covered bridges, barns, and more.
  • Coffman Park - Features the amphitheater, skate park, fishing ponds, and more nearby in Dublin.
  • Indian Run Falls - This natural gorge offers trails, observation platforms, and a bridge over the waterfalls.
  • Battelle Darby Creek - This offers 7,000 acres to hike and explore.

As always, check weather conditions before venturing to local parks and trails and make sure you take precautions to avoid contact with others not in your household.

Visit the Dealership to Shop or Service Your Car While Practicing Social Distancing

Your Guide to Buying a New Car as a New Grad

We have rounded up a list of six great cars that should be perfect for a new graduate or new professional. These models are all available at our Subaru, Volkswagen, and Audi dealerships in Columbus. Browse our inventory of these models and find your perfect fit today!

Reasons a New Grad Needs a New Ride

Every new graduate needs to make sure they have a solid vehicle to drive them forward in their next adventures. Oftentimes this is a major right of passage for college grads as it might be their first big purchase as an adult. It might be the first vehicle they have that truly reflects their personal style and desires rather than their parent's ideas of affordability, practicality, and safety. As new grads enter the workforce, they will want a trusted car, truck, or SUV that can handle the demands of their job, schedule, and hobbies.

Buying vs Leasing

Something new grads might want to consider is whether they want to buy or lease the vehicle. As you graduate from college it can be difficult to know where you will end up in a few years and what will happen in the economy. You might end up backpacking in Europe or living in a bustling city with little need for a car. Leasing could be ideal if you plan on staying put in your first job or internship for a few years. You can enjoy the benefits of driving a stylish new vehicle without the long term commitment or hefty down payment.

Leasing does require that you stay within a set mileage limit and they could be difficult to get out of. If a new grad has saved up money or receives generous cash gifts for their graduation, they might want to opt for buying a new or used car.

The Importance of Test Driving Your Porsche, Audi, Subaru, or Volkswagen

Whether you have your eye on a new or used sedan, crossover, coupe, truck, or SUV from our inventory of Porsche, Audi, Subaru, and Volkswagen vehicles in Columbus, it is extremely important that you take a test drive before walking away with a new lease or loan. This step in the car buying process is essential and important in helping you narrow down which model is right for you while ensuring you feel completely comfortable, capable, and happy behind the wheel.

Becoming Familiar w/ the Features & Accessories and Test for Comfort

The test drive truly begins before you even start the vehicle. As you sit inside, take a moment to become familiar with the features and accessories offered. Turn the key or set the start button to the accessory position to ensure the dash warning lights illuminate. This is especially important to check on a pre-owned vehicle where a simple bulb may have burned out or there may be deeper issues with the functioning that you may need to have checked.

This is also a good time to spend a few minutes making sure you and your passengers will be comfortable. Check if all of the seats are comfortable, easy to adjust, and if the seat controls are ergonomic to your body. It is also important to make sure that you as the driver will have enough visibility and legroom to be comfortable and confident on the roads. Don't forget to inspect the cargo space with your typical storage needs in mind.

What to Pay Attention to After Starting Up the Engine on a Used Car, Truck, or SUV

There are a number of steps to test driving that become increasingly important with pre-owned vehicles as you likely want to ensure that you will not end up with major issues down the road. Upon starting the engine, pay attention to any unusual noises you may hear. This could include tapping, ticking, knocking, or squealing. Take a moment to inspect the instrument panel to may sure that all of the warning lights turn off as the engine gets going.

Make sure to test out the heating and air-conditioning elements thoroughly and turn the windshield wipers on and test them at every speed. Turn the steering wheel to ensure it does not bind or stick and pump the brake pedal a few times to make sure it feels firm and not spongy or squishy.

Check that the parking brake is in good order by applying the parking brake and shifting into gear. It should hold the vehicle from moving. It is also important to pay attention to any clunking noises when shifting into gears as these could indicate an issue with a number of components.

If you are unsure about how to go about inspecting a pre-owned vehicle for quality, stick with certified vehicles from our inventory. These have undergone rigorous inspections and warranty coverage to bring greater peace of mind.

What You Should Do During a Test Drive

After this initial inspection, you are ready to take the vehicle for a drive. If you are testing a model with an automatic transmission, make sure it fully engages and shifts through each gear smoothly, firmly, and quickly. If the transmission is manual, check that there is no grinding or groaning coming from the transmission as you select gears.

Ensure the steering wheel stays centered as you begin driving straight and that it does not shake or vibrate at any speeds. You can easily determine if this vehicle pulls to the left or right by safely removing your hands from the wheel momentarily on a flat surface. If it pulls either way it may indicate some alignment or tire issues.

Make sure to take the vehicle on a bumpy or uneven road to see how it fares (a speed bump should work just fine). See how the vehicle responds to rougher terrain and if there are any rattles or strange noises that occur. If you plan on purchasing an SUV for some off-road adventures, it is important that you feel confident about the vehicle's capabilities on various types of terrain!

Remember to take your time during a test drive. The members of our sales team in Columbus are patient and ready to assist you as you navigate each step of the process to make sure you get a full and complete feel for the vehicle you are testing.

Keep Your Preferences in Mind During a Test Drive

Ultimately, many of the new and certified pre-owned vehicles on our lot will function well and pass these various tests. Don't overlook your preferences and whether or not you truly enjoy driving the vehicle!

Come to our dealership prepared with a checklist of important priorities for your driving needs to help you efficiently narrow down your choices. Discover Benefits of Choosing a Certified Pre-Owned Luxury Vehicle

Have you been browsing our inventory of stunning new luxury Porsche, Audi, or Volkswagen vehicles that are just a bit out of your price range? Maybe you are simply searching for an incredible bargain on a used Subaru or another vehicle you can trust. Buying a certified pre-owned vehicle offers a great solution for those in either camp. Discover more about our CPO inventory and the benefits of going this route for your next car, truck or SUV purchase!

What Exactly Does Certified Pre-Owned Mean?

Certified pre-owned cars are gently used vehicles sold by dealerships like ours in Columbus that come in with limited age and miles and have undergone a thorough inspection and reconditioning process to ensure they are a high-quality option for buyers. Some dealerships will try to sell you an overpriced dealer certified vehicle that isn't actually backed by the cars' manufacturer. Our certified vehicles are backed by Porsche, Audi, Subaru, and Volkswagen, so you know you are getting a good deal!

These manufacturer certified cars undergo some sort of standardized inspection process to make sure the vehicle meets the criteria to achieve CPO status. They will typically offer an extension of the factory warranty term and oftentimes will include roadside assistance and other features to incentivize buyers.

Who Might Consider Choosing a Certified Used Vehicle?

How will you know if you are the right candidate for a certified used vehicle?

That's easy. Everyone should consider buying one!

These vehicles are especially sought out by buyers on a budget looking to get a little more bang for their buck. For instance, you could buy a brand new vehicle at the top of your price range that doesn't include many add-ons, or you could opt for a slightly older version with every amenity you could desire at the same price!

If you are the kind of person who always saves for emergencies and likes to ensure you will be safe and secure in every situation, you will likely want to choose a certified option over a used car. This will help buffer the apprehension you may feel about concerns for reliability and warranty coverage on your average pre-owned car.

There is one situation that the automotive world agrees is right for choosing CPO, and that is when you are shopping for a luxury car. These tend to have higher running costs and a certified stamp could help filter out the luxury models that do not meet high standards while offering a warranty buffer zone against extensive repairs. You still should not spend a dramatic amount more on a certified luxury car than a used luxury car, but it will likely be worth it to properly invest to get ahold of the additional coverage and rigorous inspection process.

Porsche CPO Program

Porsche offers an excellent program that covers its vehicles with a bumper-to-bumper warranty for up to 6 years and unlimited mileage from the original sale date (provided they are under warranty at the time of purchase). If the car is not covered by the original warranty, the Porsche CPO program offers 2 years with unlimited miles of coverage. This program requires no deductible and will be fully transferable to future owners should you wish to sell or transfer ownership.

Audi CPO Program

The Audi CPO program extends coverage by 1 year and unlimited miles past the expiration of the original new car warranty. Audi certified vehicles come with extremely thorough 300+ point inspections from the headlights to the engine, through to the electrical and safety systems. The program conveniently avoids deductibles and transfer fees. You may also be able to find special financing rates when you opt for a certified used Audi.

Volkswagen CPO Program

The certified program from Volkswagen adds 2 years of 24,000 miles of coverage beyond their standard bumper-to-bumper warranty. Their warranty coverage is model specific, so be sure to pay attention to the specifics. Other benefits include a 100+ point inspection, a 3-month all-access trial of SiriusXM radio, 24-hour roadside assistance, and a free Carfax vehicle history report. Their program does require a deductible fee, so keep that in mind.

Subaru CPO Program

Subaru offers a CPO program that boasts powertrain coverage for up to 7 years or 100,000 miles from the original sale date. Bumper-to-bumper warranty can be added for a fee to provide additional coverage. Their program does not require a deductible and is fully transferable. Something to remember about Subaru vehicles and choosing a pre-owned option is that 97% of their vehicles sold in the last decade are still on the road today. They are known for their reliability!

Ready to Begin Shopping for Your Next Certified Car, Truck, or SUV?

Now that you have a better understanding of the benefits of a certified pre-owned car and the differences in the programs for Porsche, Audi, Volkswagen, and Subaru, you can begin shopping! If you want a vehicle with low-mileage at a lower price that comes with greater peace of mind, then going the CPO route is your best bet!

Comparing the 2019 Subaru Forester Sport w/ the 2019 Toyota RAV4 Adventure

For any outdoor enthusiasts or even simple fans of cars capable enough to handle the Columbus backroads, the Subaru Forester and Toyota RAV4 are sure to have come up in a conversation or two. Maybe you have already started browsing one or both of these models. While these both tend to land at the top of the list for many drivers, it may be difficult to understand the differences and choose the right fit for your active lifestyle. At Byers Imports, we are happy to give you a breakdown of each of these models including performance, space, technology, off-road capability, driving experience, and price. Take an in-depth look at each option, and make sure to weigh the pros and cons of each before heading into the dealership for a test drive.

Overview of the New Subaru Forester Sport

The Subaru Forester has been a longtime favorite in the compact SUV category. The newest model is available in a Sport trim with standard all-wheel drive and enhanced off-road capabilities, as well as the other features drivers love about the past Forester models. The Sport includes unique orange exterior accents and badging, an All-Weather Package, and the SI-DRIVE® engine management system.

Overview of the New Toyota RAV4 Adventure

The 2019 Toyota RAV4 Adventure trim is also an outdoor-focused compact SUV. The newer version is more geared towards outdoor-focused drivers than previous configurations have been. The RAV4 remains a popular choice in its class thanks to a comfortable ride, abundant space, driver-friendly controls, and a robust AWD upgrade.

Comparing Performance - Available Engines & Output

When it comes to performance, each sport utility vehicle has something to offer. The 2019 RAV4 offers a 2.5-liter inline-four engine with 203 horsepower, and the 2019 Forester offers a new, more powerful 2.5-liter flat-four engine that produces 182 horsepower. Despite the slight drop in horsepower, the Forester feels quicker thanks to a sharp throttle response and the ability to use the Sport Sharp mode. While both vehicles are plenty capable for off-road adventures, drivers have complained about some of the gruff noises from the RAV4's engine.

Comparing Fuel Economy - Save More at the Pump on Long Trips

Good fuel economy is extremely important when choosing a compact SUV for daily driving or weekend adventures. Thankfully, both the Forester and RAV4 offer exceptional efficiency among others in their class with the RAV4 Adventure offering 28 mpg combined and the Forester Sport returning 29 mpg combined.

Comparing the Driving Experience - Choose Smoother Driving on Rough Terrain

Where the Forester and RAV4 really differ is the driving experience. The new RAV4 can be slightly confining with a low roof and a higher center console although it does feel a bit sportier than it has in the past. The new Forester stands out with exceptional visibility thanks to high-seating with a broad view. This can be extremely helpful when it comes to parking, general safety, or off-road driving. The Forester also handles well maneuvering tight corners and quick turns thanks to a lofty ground clearance of 8.7 inches. The RAV4 Adventure adds more ground clearance as well(8.6 inches), but does tend to lean a bit more on quick turns. Both options provide greater assurance and capability off-road than other options in their genre thanks to more sophisticated all-wheel drive systems and off-road driving modes.

Comparing Space - Make Sure You Have Enough Cargo Space for Your Gear!

The RAV4's recent radical transformation actually hurts it when it comes to space as it offers less headroom than before and a smaller cargo area. The Forester can be described as boxy and functional with taller body height and amplified legroom, a major advantage over the RAV4 for taller drivers. Many people have expressed that the Forester generally feels more open and spacious.

Those with four-legged friends may also find the Forester to be better suited to their needs as the RAV4's sloped tailgate and the small rear quarter window is just not as accommodating. The Toyota does conveniently offer under-floor storage for the cargo cover and two-sided cargo floor. Both models offer robust roof rails for carrying gear.

Comparing Features and Technology for Safety, Convenience, & Smartphone Integration

The comparison shouldn't stop at capability and performance as technology and smartphone integration can be extremely helpful and important for an adventure-ready vehicle. The Forester Sport comes standard with an easy-to-use touchscreen and the Sport offers the chance to upgrade to a high-resolution 8-inch version. The RAV4 offers a standard 7-inch touchscreen within easy reach that can also be updated to an 8-inch option. The Forester and RAV4 both offer Apple CarPlay, but only the Forester comes with Android Auto, so Android users may be more inclined to choose the Forester.

When it comes to safety technology, both vehicles come standard with an ample amount of technology including forward collision warning with pedestrian detection and automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control.

Pricing Comparisons & Final Outcome - The 2019 Forester Sport Comes Out on Top

While the 2019 Subaru Forester Sport and the 2019 Toyota RAV4 both perform well in many important categories, the Subaru ultimately comes out on top thanks to better interior space and visibility. Drivers also won't have to upgrade too much to achieve maximum outdoor capabilities as they would with the RAV4. The Forester also offers a better value than the RAV4 adventure, coming in at a couple of thousand dollars less and offering consumers more for their money.

Introducing the Taycan - The First Full-Electric Sports Car from Porsche

Less is known about the first full-electric sports car from Porsche, but it is expected to make some serious waves with drivers and auto-enthusiasts. Originally labeled the Mission E, the all-electric performance sedan was officially named the Taycan, which translates as "lively young horse". The Taycan will be athletic, performance-oriented, and capable of longer distances on a single charge.

In terms of all-electric range, Porsche estimates an impressive 311 miles. The automaker says the 800-volt fast-charging system will replenish 80% of the battery pack in a quick 15-minute charge. On top of this impressive range and charging power, the Taycan will also blow away the competition with exhilarating performance and handling that mirrors the popular 911. The electric performance sedan is expected to make over 600 horsepower, enough to take drivers from 0-62 mph in 3.5 seconds.

Not only does this eco-friendly option perform like a regular sports car, but it looks like one too. The Taycan offers a harmonious blend of typical Porsche shapes and an aerodynamic style inspired by motorsports to result in a flow-through body geared towards performance. The Taycan also feels superbly agile thanks to active, adaptive air suspension and rear-wheel steering. The low center of gravity and low seating position make this performance sedan feel more sporty and driver-focused than others in its class.

You can start the deposit option process on a 2020 Porsche Taycan at our Columbus dealership! Fill out this form with your personal information and learn more about the program details as well as general terms and conditions. Our team will reach out to confirm your intent to buy this all-electric performance sedan and will discuss next steps with you.

The new Cayenne features a sports-car pedigree, exquisite attention to detail, and enough space for a family of five and all of their belongings. With a trio of capable powertrains that pair with an automatic transmission and all-wheel drive, your family can go further than before. Keep in mind that this luxury SUV can be outfitted with various performance upgrades and customized options to suit your specific desires.

Below we will showcase just ten of the features of the 2019 Cayenne that will turn heads and surpass similar offerings in the luxury SUV genre!

1)   Electronic Roll Stability

The first feature that stands out on the 2019 iteration is the available electrically adjustable anti-roll bars. This is offered on the Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control package and is available on every Cayenne model. This new electromechanical setup will suppress lateral body movement during a cornering maneuver. Not only will this function increase your performance, but it will also add to better ride comfort for you and your passengers.

2) Rear-Wheel Steering System

The new Cayenne also boasts a rear-wheel steering system that adds actuators to the rear axle to steer the rear wheels against the fronts. This contributes to sharper turn-ins and easier maneuvering in tight parking lots at lower speeds as well as greater stability at speeds above 50 mph.

3) Air Suspension Gains Two Additional Chambers and More Capability

The older Cayenne models offered a single air chamber in each of its air springs, but the 2019 version now offers three air chambers per spring. This translates to multiple effective spring rates and a wider range of ride heights. Drivers can choose from five selectable clearances that start at a low 6.4-inches and move up to 10.4-inches to accommodate off-road driving. Consumers will also appreciate the super-low loading mode that provides easier access to the cargo area for regular trips to the grocery store or weekend trips to the lake.

4) Staggered-Width Tires

In the past, the Cayenne has worn only square-fitment front and rear tires. For the 2019 model, the SUV finally sees a staggered fitment on every trim to deliver better performance and handling. The 19-inch-wheel package is wrapped in 255/55 front and 275/50 rear tires. The uplevel 20-inch wheels boosting those widths to 275s in front and 305s in back. The Cayenne's 21-inch fitment offers 9.5-inch-wide wheels in front with 285s stretched over them.

5) Matrix LED Headlights

Standing on the cutting-edge of lighting technology, Porsche added matrix LED headlights to the new Cayenne. This features a large array of individually-controlled, fixed-position LEDs per headlight. When drivers use the SUV's forward camera and light sensors, the lights can selectively shut off certain bulbs to protect oncoming cars from the bright LED headlights. The system can also light certain bulbs to highlight potential dangers on the road such as animals or pedestrians.

6) Electronically-Adjustable Grille Shutters

Electrically-adjustable grille shutters are available on every 2019 Cayenne to minimize drag and enhance engine cooling. All four of the openings in the front fascia of the luxury SUV now offers active shutters. Slats will stay closed during lower speeds and open as needed when speed and engine loads increase.

7) Available in an Eco-Friendly Hybrid

Modern drivers can rejoice! The 2019 Cayenne is available in an eco-friendly hybrid option called the E-Hybrid. This green option provides the best fuel economy while packing a punch with a turbocharged 3-liter V6 engine that pushes out 455 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. The battery pack can be easily charged through a standard 3.6-kW onboard charger or the optional 7.2-W unit. There is no longer a need to choose between a luxury SUV and a capable, environmentally-sustainable option.

8) Advanced Driver-Assistance Safety Tech

While safety isn't always the most exciting thing to talk about, it is certainly an important consideration for most drivers. The new Cayenne offers a bevy of advanced driver-assistance technology to keep drivers, passengers, and pedestrians safer. Every model offers forward-collision warning with parking sensors at both ends. Other key safety features that are available include adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go technology, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and an infrared camera to support night vision.

8 Myths & Misconceptions About Buying a New Car through a Dealer

Buying a brand new car can seem like a stressful ordeal. There are a lot of myths and misconceptions swirling around about how to get the best deal and what to avoid when financing a vehicle. Here we will break down 8 of the biggest myths surrounding buying a new car along with helpful information to guide you when the time comes to head to the dealership for a new ride!

 1) You Can Get a Better Deal on a New Car on the Internet

Many times, buyers think they can find a better deal on a new car on the internet rather than heading into the dealership. Even if you see an attractive price tag for a vehicle online, it is important to remember that the lease or finance rate, trade-in price, extended warranty, and other products still need to be negotiated into the final price. It can be helpful to shop around on the internet to get a better idea about pricing and to learn more about the vehicle, but you are likely to save much more time and money by working with a trusted dealership!

2) You Will Get a Better Price If You Pay Cash

While cash can often be king, this is not necessarily true when buying a new car. Even if you do not currently have a complete cash payment ready to purchase your dream Porsche or Volkswagen, you may be able to find even more helpful incentives for your purchase if you choose to finance through the dealership. Make a financing decision that makes sense for your budget and long-term goals, not one that you think will get you a lower price on the vehicle. Save that lump of cash for a rainy day!

3) You Should Bring Your Own Financing into the Dealership

You may be encouraged to seek your own financing for a new vehicle outside of the dealership. While it can be helpful to look around for good deals, you are unlikely to find many good options outside of the dealership. They often have access to a wider array of banks and highly discounted interest rates from the manufacturer to help sell vehicles. Stay open to the options that the dealership will offer you. Chances are they will bring in the best financing deal whether you have good or bad credit.

4) You Should Buy the Car with the Lowest Price or Payment

Budget is likely a top priority when shopping for your next vehicle. Many buyers make the mistake of focusing too much on a specific number like the price, monthly payment, or interest rate. It is important to look at the complete deal to make sure you aren't paying more money in the long run. If you select a finance option with the lowest monthly payment, you may end up paying more in interest over a longer period of time. Make sure to thoroughly examine the financing and consult with a finance expert at the dealership if you want help understanding the loan.

5) You Should Wait Until the End of the Month or a Rainy Day to Buy

Most people have heard this myth. Wait until the end of the month when the dealership is trying to hit a sales target. The reality is that the dealership may have already hit their monthly target and are not in any hurry to offer more incentives.

The old idea of hitting the dealership on a rainy day in hopes that the bad weather will keep other buyers away is also untrue. Oftentimes they will be just as busy as any normal day and sometimes you will find even more buyers swarming around than normal.

Don't wait in hopes of getting a better deal on that car you have your eye on. Buy the vehicle when it makes sense for you and act quickly to make sure you get the specific model you want in your preferred trim and configurations.

6) You Should Hide Your Trade-In Value

You may have heard that you could get an even better deal at the dealership if you hide your trade-in evaluation and spring it on the salesperson after finalizing the price on the car. This can actually add hours to the amount of time you would spend at the dealership and will not likely change the amount you will ultimately receive for your trade. Make sure to do your research on the trade-in value of your current vehicle and the value of the new car beforehand, but save yourself time and effort and present it to the dealership at the start of negotiations.

7) You Can't Walk Out During Negotiations

A good automotive dealer will focus more on helping their customers and creating a positive buying experience than simply selling cars. It is a misconception that once you start negotiating, you are obliged to stay and finish the deal. You have the power to leave whenever you choose and you are free to take more time to consider your purchase if you are at all unsure about the deal.

8) The Car Buying Process Has to Be Difficult

Making big financing decisions is always bound to come with some stress and worry. Buying a car doesn't have to be as difficult as most people assume it will be. Gathering the right information from the dealer's website and other helpful online tools, choosing your budget, and working with a trusted sales team to find the perfect fit can help you get behind the wheel of your next vehicle quickly and easily.

Now that you understand 8 of the biggest myths surrounding buying a new car, you are ready to start the process! If you have any further questions about the process, give our team a call today. We are happy to walk you through the entire process to help you avoid pitfalls and feel more confident in your final decision. 12 Simple Ways to Maintain Your Brand New Car

Did you recently drive off the dealership lot in the Porsche, Subaru, Audi, or Volkswagen of your dreams? Chances are, you are loving that new car smell and new car feel, and you want to make that last as long as possible. Many contemporary models need less-frequent service and offer more reliability than the vehicles of yesteryear, but you will still need to do a few key things to keep it running in top shape. We are happy to outline 12 simple tasks that can make your car feel like new and last much longer.

 1)      Check the Engine Oil

It will be important for you to regularly check the engine oil for your brand new car, truck, or SUV. Check it once a month if your vehicle is in good condition and more if you are worried about leaks. Park your vehicle on level ground for an accurate dipstick reading and be sure to avoid overfilling it with oil. Make sure to get a leak fixed right away at a trusted service center as this could cause problems down the line.

2) Check the Air Pressure of the Tires

This easy maintenance task can also be done once a month or before any big road trips. Simply use an accurate tire-pressure gauge to ensure optimal inflation pressure in each tire (the pressure recommended by the vehicle's manufacturer). This is best done when the tires are cold, so do it before your daily commute or any extended driving. A regular pressure check is also a good chance to inspect the tires for any abnormal or uneven wear or any damages that would warrant a replacement.

3) Wash Your Car Regularly

It is important to wash your car at least every other week if you can. Not only will this help to keep your car looking good, but it will protect the paint and finish from various contaminants on the road. Remember to hose out the fender wells and undercarriage to remove road salt and dirt once in a while and wax the finish regularly for added protection.

4) Change the Oil & Filter

Many automakers will recommend changing the engine oil and filter every 7,500 miles or six months, but special engines like diesel or turbocharged options may need more frequent changes. Make sure to check your owner's manual for specific instructions for your model. These maintenance tasks can be done easily at the dealership's service center if you would prefer not to attempt them yourself!

5) Check the Air Filter

An easy way to check and see if you need to replace your air filter is to remove the element and hold it up to a strong light. If you cannot see light, it is time for a replacement. Check the owner's manual for instructions on how to locate and change the air filter.

6) Inspect the Exhaust System

This can be tougher to do as you will have to make an under-car inspection to check for exhaust parts that are rusted and need replacing. An easy way to approach this is to request that the service center inspect the system during your next oil change.

7) Check the Brakes & Brake Fluid

It is important to look at your brakes at least twice per year or more if you put more miles on your vehicle. Most people prefer to have an experienced technician check and service their brakes, but if you prefer to DIY make sure to completely remove the wheels and examine the brake system. Replace worn pads and linings and pay attention to the shape of the rotors and drums.

This would also be a good time to make sure you have fresh, functional brake fluid. If the fluid level is low, top it off. Make sure to have the system checked for leaks.

8) Flush & Clean the Radiator

Most people know it is important to flush your radiator based on the automaker's recommendation for your vehicle. Removing debris from the radiator is also a good idea as it can help prevent overheating. Take a soft brush and wash the outside with a detergent solution whenever necessary.

9) Check the Battery

Check the fluid level of your battery every few months and inspect the terminals and cables to ensure they are securely attached. Make sure to test the battery and if you are unsure about how to do so, schedule an appointment to have a professional do it for you.

10) Change the Automatic Transmission Fluid

It is typically recommended that you replace this fluid every 36,000 miles and the filter about every 100,000 miles. With some later models, you will never need to change your transmission fluid, so be sure to check your owner's manual for specific information for your vehicle.

11) Replace Drive Belts & Hoses

This service can be done every two or three years whether they show wear or not. A belt or hose failure could cause a number of problems including a loss of power steering, an overheated engine, and a loss of the electrical charging system. Make sure to have a belt adjusted by an experienced technician if it becomes noisy.

12) Change the Timing Belt

Failing to change the timing belt when your manufacturer recommends can result in a costly engine repair should it break. The belt should be changed about every 60-80,000 miles, but make sure to consult with the dealer for a suggested replacement interval on your specific vehicle.

While many of these things can be done quickly and easily yourself, there are a lot of maintenance requirements for vehicles that are better left to the experts. Byers Imports proudly offers exceptional service for Audi, Porsche, Volkswagen, and Subaru vehicles in the Columbus area, whether you bought yours at our dealership or not! Schedule an appointment for needed service today and we will set you up on an easy maintenance schedule to keep your new car running optimally.

A Complete Guide to Buying a Certified Pre-Owned Vehicle in Columbus, Ohio

Car buyers in the Columbus area are increasingly looking for a way to save more on their next auto purchase. One way to get a like-new car, truck, or SUV at a discount is to opt for a Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) option from our extensive inventory of Porsche, Audi, Volkswagen, Subaru, and more from other top manufacturers. Interested drivers can take a look at the Byers Imports complete guide to buying CPO. Below we outline some of the top reasons this might be right for certain drivers and how to navigate the buying process with our team of friendly automotive experts.

Top 6 Reasons to Buy a Certified Used Porsche, Audi, Volkswagen, or Subaru

  • Vehicles in the Best Condition Qualify to be CPO

One major benefit of choosing a CPO vehicle is that only the highest quality used vehicles are accepted into programs. This typically includes later-model, low-mileage vehicles with clean vehicle history reports. Drivers that want to save on their next vehicle without compromising quality will want to consider this option.

  • Vehicles Undergo Extensive Inspections & Reconditioning

Our dealership will thoroughly examine each vehicle to make sure it meets the program standards of each automotive manufacturer. Typically, a CPO vehicle will undergo over 100 individual item checks and may see reconditioning or replacements before it goes on sale as a certified option. This saves the worry of buying a used car without knowing exactly what condition it is in.

  • Vehicles Offer an Extended Warranty Protection

CPO programs will often extend the original basic and the original powertrain warranty on a vehicle that qualifies. Drivers interested in saving on a like-new vehicle and still enjoying the benefits of a solid warranty will enjoy this feature of the CPO program. Interested buyers should look at the specifics of the automaker's program warranty or speak to our dealership team for more information.

  • Vehicles Provide Free Roadside Assistance

Many certified programs include free 24-hour roadside assistance through the extended basic warranty coverage. This is a great benefit in case drivers find themselves running out of gas, locked out of their vehicle, needing a quick jump-start, or other basic services.

  • Vehicles with Low-Interest Financing

While certified used vehicles are typically more expensive than similar models that are not certified, they can qualify for lower finance rates. These would typically be equal to the types of loans offered on new vehicles. This financing option lowers the monthly payment and further assists drivers and families on a budget. Those interested in saving more can discuss their options thoroughly with our team of finance experts.

  • Vehicles with Maintenance Deals

Certain CPO programs include free maintenance for a set period of time and/or mileage. This typically goes towards oil changes, tire rotations, vehicle inspections, and more required maintenance according to the manufacturer's recommended intervals.

Customers should take a look at the specifics of each Certified Pre-Owned vehicle to determine if it suits their driving needs and budget. CPO vehicles are an excellent option for many young professionals, families, retirees, and any driver looking to get a like-new vehicle at a used car price!

Tips for Buying a Certified Pre-Owned Vehicle

Buying a certified used car, truck, or SUV will be similar to buying a new car. There are a few things drivers should keep in mind as they begin the CPO buying process. Shopping for the right certified vehicle is easy with the help of our extensive online inventory. Drivers can also simply head into our dealership in Columbus and ask a sales professional to help them navigate the current CPO inventory.

It is important that buyers test drive and visually inspect any car they are seriously considering. Although vehicles in the CPO program come in great condition, they are still used cars and are bound to have some slight wear and tear. Drivers should inspect the vehicle for dings, dents, scratches, and interior wear. The benefit of going certified is that prospective buyers shouldn't have to worry about deeper inspections as certified vehicles have already undergone extensive inspections by a trained technician.

Customers should take the time to work with our dealership team to understand the warranty on the vehicle they are interested in. Porsche, Audi, Volkswagen, and Subaru all have different CPO programs, so it is important to be clear on exactly how long the specific vehicle's warranty coverage will last as this might affect a final decision between similar cars that offer different levels of coverage.

For added peace of mind, customers can ask to see the inspection report on their chosen vehicle. The report will show exactly which features have been examined and often what condition those features are currently in. Oftentimes, a vehicle history report will be included in the CPO program so that drivers know exactly what their vehicle has been through. Customers can request any of these documents from our dealership team.

Any drivers interested in buying a CPO vehicle from our dealership in Columbus can rely on our team of dedicated professionals to walk them through the entire car-buying process. We are committed to helping our customers get behind the wheel of the right vehicle at the right price.

8 Things to do for Your Vehicle Before Spring

As warmer weather signals the approach of spring in Columbus, it is time to get your vehicle ready for the next season. Some simple preventative maintenance and care items would save you from seeing costly repairs down the road. A bonus of many of these steps is that a lot of this work can be done yourself and they won't take up too much of the time you would rather spend enjoying the warmer weather. Follow this checklist of eight simple steps provided by our dealership's automotive experts!

Check Your Tires

Harsh winters in Ohio can lead to more potholes that cause tires to wear unevenly. Cold weather can also mess with tire pressure, so drivers should be sure to check their levels and inflate them to correct levels according to the manufacturer's recommendations. Now is also a good time to check the tread to see if tires need to be replaced.

Drivers should have their tires evaluated and might want to consider getting a wheel alignment to extend the life of the tires, reducing vibration and road noise. A rotation will also ensure the tires are wearing evenly. If drivers are unsure about the condition of their tires, they can set up an appointment at our Porsche, Audi, Volkswagen, and Subaru service centers.

Swap Out Winter Tires

If you rotate between winter tires and summer or all-season tires, now is the time to start swapping out the winter set. This project can be done by yourself, or you can enlist the help of a certified technician. Make sure you choose manufacturer-recommended tires for your specific model.

Inspect Your Brakes

The end of winter is a perfect time to inspect your brakes as road salt and other contaminants can take a toll on components of the brake system. Drivers should make sure to check the brakes, lines, and hoses during a seasonal tire rotation. Properly cleaned and lubricated brake parts can help prevent premature wear, keeping you and your passengers safer on the road.

To visually check your brake pads yourself, check the spaces between the wheel's spoke. There should be at least ¼ inch of pad. If it is worn down, it might be time to have them inspected and replaced.

Check Fluids & Schedule an Oil Change

While getting other parts of your vehicle inspected and fixed up for spring, you should also change your oil if it is due. Extreme cold temperatures can take their toll on the life of engine oil, so it is a good idea to check the dipstick to see if it is running low.

While getting your vehicle serviced, you can also have other fluids checked and topped off such as power steering, brake, transmission, and engine coolant. Windshield wiper fluid should be checked frequently as it empties quickly throughout the winter.

Check Your Suspension

Winter driving can affect the shock, struts, and other suspension components of your vehicle. You have probably already felt the effects of various potholes and uneven surfaces over the past few months. One of these easiest ways to tell if the suspension is off is to pay attention if your ride begins to feel rougher. This may include bumps, shakes, and audible squeaks.

You can also schedule an appointment at the dealership to get your alignment and suspension checked for signs of leaks and damage.

Replace Wiper Blades

Wiper blades need to be replaced every six months to a year. Drivers that are starting to see streaks on their windshield or even those that haven't thought about changing their wipers since last winter should take this opportunity to replace them with quality new ones. This is an easy DIY step that will make a big difference with the approaching spring and summer showers.

Check Your Battery

The battery on your vehicle can drain easier since it has to work harder during the winter months. If you suspect the battery life is low, check the date it was installed and visit a parts retailer to get it checked or to get a new one. Some drivers could test their battery from their own driveway with a virtual battery test for convenience. Often times battery inspections are a free service at auto parts stores!

Clean It Up

Winter in Columbus means dealing with slush, snow, and various road treatments that can be harmful to your vehicle. While many people think about tending to their home for some spring cleaning, your car should be included! Start spring fresh by thoroughly cleaning the inside and outside of your vehicle. You may want to fork out a little more money to get it detailed to remove residue and eliminate any unpleasant odors. The undercarriage of the vehicle and the bottom of the car doors should get extra attention as grime, salt, and corrosion can find a foothold in these places. Remember to remove your floor mats, treat your upholstery, and empty out your winter emergency gear box.
